Synopsis

Zakat is often seen as a simple annual obligation, but in reality, it is a powerful tool for spiritual purification, financial discipline, and communal growth. Rooted in the Arabic word Numu' (growth), Zakat is designed not just to redistribute wealth but to enhance prosperity and blessings for both the giver and the receiver.

Yet, many Muslims limit their understanding of Zakat to cash, gold, insurance, and stocks, without realizing that modern investments and business assets also fall under its purview. How do you determine Zakatable assets? What if you have multiple streams of wealth beyond the usual categories? And how does Zakat truly contribute to financial growth rather than depletion?

In this interactive and practical session, participants will:
✅ Gain a deeper understanding of Zakat’s true essence—beyond just an annual duty
✅ Learn how to calculate Zakat across various asset classes (business, shares, investments, etc.)
✅ Discover how Zakat impacts wealth management and financial sustainability
✅ Get hands-on guidance from a finance and Shariah-trained practitioner

Zakat, at its core, is more than just a financial obligation—it carries profound meanings in its root Arabic form:

  • Numu' – Growth
  • Taharah – Purification
  • Barakah – Blessing
  • Salah – Righteousness & Integrity
  • Madh – Praise

Yet, a common misconception persists: Zakat is merely a tax on a Muslim’s wealth.

But if one of its meanings is growth (Numu'), how does that reshape our understanding of Zakat? How does it tie into wealth management and financial responsibility?

And beyond the usual assets—cash, gold, insurance, and stocks—what about other forms of investments? Is Zakat applicable to businesses, real estate, or modern financial instruments?

In this session, we’ll go beyond the basics, uncovering the broader scope of Zakat and its application to various investments. Join us as we explore how to calculate and fulfill your Zakat in a way that aligns with both financial growth and spiritual purification.
